Chronicles of Narnia Literary Analisis 1, 2, and 3

Reading Analysis 1, 2, and 3

I just finished reading the Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis. All of the books in this series fall under the fantasy genre.  The books follow the adventures of several children and their quests to do good and overcome evil in the fictional land of Narnia. The collective theme of these books state that love for all things is essential and that “good” will always overcome “evil”.
These books take place over a wide variety of settings.  But mainly, the central location is Narnia, a fictional parallel world. The world of Narnia has several countries including Narnia itself, Calormene, Archenland, The Seven Isles, The Lone Islands, and many more. The adventures of the children take place in the forests, underground lands, and on the sea.  The palace, Cair Paravel, is also a location important in each of the seven books.
The Chronicles of Narnia do not follow the adventures of one child only. They follow several children, and the adventures of each child are intertwined with the adventures of the others.
Aslan—Aslan is the Great Lion, the creator of the world of Narnia. Aslan is a lion, and he is the definition of “good”. He is in all the stories and he connects with each of the children from our world who come into the land of Narnia.
The Children from our world—Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer happen into the world of Narnia the day it is being created. They appear in the Magicians Nephew, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and The Last Battle. The Pevensie children, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy are central focal points in the Narnia series. They defeat the White Witch in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Aslan makes the Pevensie children and kings and queens of Narnia.  They are always considered kings and queens each time they visit Narnia. One or more of the Pevensie children appears in each of the books. Eustace Scrubb and Jill Pole are two friends who happen into the land of Narnia.  Eustace is a cousin to the Pevensie children.
Important characters from the land of Narnia—Prince Caspian is a great friend to the Pevensie children and Eustace. He is the rightful heir to the Narnian throne during his time. Shasta and Aravis are the characters in The Horse and his Boy. Shasta discovers that he is a prince and later on marries Aravis.
In each of the Narnian books there is conflict. The main conflict is always major, the classic “good” vs. “evil”. The conflict in these stories is centered on a character who wishes for power and control. Much of the conflict in this series is fought out through battles. “Good” always wins in the land of Narnia and the children help make sure that Narnia overcomes evil. Aslan always helps the children complete the tasks he gives them to overcome the evil in the land of Narnia.
Many scholars believe that the Narnia series has Christian parallels. Even though C.S. Lewis said that he did not intend in the first place to parallel Christianity through his books, I liked reading and discovering the parallels that scholars have made.
I also enjoy being able to identify with all the characters when I read a book. One of my favorite characters in this series is Lucy Pevensie. I love her innocence and her pure love for all things around her. Prince Caspian is my second favorite character. I enjoyed reading about his journey and I thought that he was a very strong character.

Thursday 1/6/11

Today has been a pretty regular day here at OH. We started out the day with morning meeting and then had our first block (All FLVS) for high school. We have been doing an all FLVS week so we could all get done with our classes. I first worked on my last Spanish assignment. It was a series of review questions that we could customize to our needs. Then I finished my Geometry lesson from yesterday, I'm learning about polygons and quadrilaterals. After that I completed a second lesson on quadrilaterals.

Kick ball was great today! I was very entertaining to watch, it was a very active game. Someone who is interested in the school came today and visited us. He joined in the kickball game and he was a good addition to
the Butterflies of Hope. The Dominators won again though! I cannot wait until I can play kickball again. :)

After kickball was Channel One and then we all went to work again. I then worked on a Biology assignment. After that I had a Biology quiz. Then I had my final DBA for my Spanish class for the semester. I continued to work on Biology after that. In total, I got about 5 assignments done today. Talk to everyone tomorrow!

Wednesday 1/5/11

Today has been a pretty good day. I accomplished a lot of my assignments and I am completing my second semester work at a good pace. This morning I worked on a Biology lesson and learned about fossils and more about evolution. I was not able to get as much done as I wanted today because I had Physical Therapy and I came late to school. I also worked some on Geometry this morning. After lunch was music and we were perfecting our song "I Love Rock and Roll" by Joan Jett. We are going to have a band concert in a few weeks or so. After music I worked more on Geometry and I also answered questions for my last Spanish DBA for the first semester. Then the high school side started telling scary stories...we kind of got off track. :) Then about ten minutes before clean up time, the whole school came over to the high school side and Mr. Randy started telling stories. Today was a good day! See all you guys tomorrow!! :)

Tuesday 1/4/2011

Hello everyone! I am so excited to be back at school. I have actually gotten a lot done today. I had to contact all my teachers and tell them that I was ready to be activated in my courses this morning. I did my module 5 Geometry pretest this morning. I'll be working on quadrilaterals in that Module. It's getting pretty cold outside so everyone had an active brain break. We had an extra long kickball game today because it's a Tuesday and we don't have music on Tuesdays. This afternoon, I worked on Biology. I was learning about evolution and I was introduced to a lot of new theories and view points on the subject. I learned about the differences between Micro and Macro evolution. I watched a PBS video on evolution and learned so much! I really like Biology and I am excited for this next semester. Hopefully I will be activated in Geometry tomorrow and I will be able to complete more assignments. Talk to you all tomorrow!

Goals for Today 1/4/11

I plan on contacting my Spanish teacher for my last oral and my first semester test today. I also want to get at least four assignments done in my classes.

Self Evaluation Part 3

I am still working on getting my pace charts organized correctly. I would give myself a 7 on productiveness for the block. I could have worked harder and faster on organizing my second semester pace charts. For the day, I rate myself at a five. I think that I work best during the morning when I am more awake and focused. I don't work as well in the afternoon, and I will try to improve my afternoon productiveness. I think the lack of my productiveness today was because I haven't seen a lot of my friends in awhile.

Self Evaluation Part 2

I give myself a 9 for this block. I worked hard on redoing my pace charts. I am not completely done yet, but I did as much as I could complete during this block. I did not get a full 10 because I did not focus as much as I could have. :)

Self Direction

I was a little late to school today because I had physical therapy. I was able to send an email to my teacher to schedule my last DBA and my last test. I will rate my self direction at a 7. I was excited to see everyone again and I wasn't as focused as I should have been. Through the next blocks I will try to be more focused. I plan on making my pace charts for my next semester of classes.
